Good sound spoiled by shoddy construction and other annoyances2
(Reviewed after a few days of use.)

Since I can't hear above about 13 KHz I'm not qualified to say too much about the sound (20 KHz is considered to be the upper limit for people with excellent hearing). However, I like the way music sounds on these speakers. After turning the bass volume down they don't sound too "boomy", but when I crank the system up to full volume I can feel the vibrations from the subwoofer . (This is while sitting in a small apartment, about two or three feet away from the satellites and subwoofer.) If I were keeping these speakers I'd test them further and report my experience, but they're not worth the time because of their other flaws.

Other than the sound, these speakers are losers. The contacts for the volume controls are bad -- when turning the volume to maximum I sometimes hear static and the sound becomes quieter; the same thing with the bass volume. Other flaws are less annoying: Both volume-control wheels are smooth plastic and it's hard to tell if you're turning them or if your finger is slipping over them (when turned all the way up or down). There are two jacks on the base of the right-hand satellite, one for earphones and one for plugging in an MP3 player. The jack for the MP3 player is near the back of the satellite, so it's awkward to reach when connecting or disconnecting your player. The cradle for the MP3 player is an inexpensive piece of plastic (shown in the product image) and some might like it, but I'd just as soon lay my player flat on the desk.

When I first tried these speakers I heard a loud THUNK of static whenever plugging or unplugging earphones, but that problem largely disappeared after a few days of use.
