What a great little set of speakers with a BIG sound! When I received this box and saw how small it was -- I was a little leary wondering how such a little set of speakers and sub-woofer would come through. I wanted to replace a much bulkier system that had extremely long and cumbersome wires and a sub-woofer twice as big. I loved the sound of this set but noticed some hum coming from the wiring to the sub-woofer. I realized that it had to be a grounding issue on my side and it seems to have dissipated. When I got all of my volume controls set up, I was pleased to hear some beautiful The Art Of The Guitar - Sabicas (Digitally Remastered) Sabicas Flamenco to test the highs and the lows. While this does not have the same sound quality of my larger system (a Scott surround sound system) it is also very different. The Logitech Z313 speakers are small and light and made of plastic through and through. The speakers are very nice looking and will compliment most towers or notebooks today with a silver and black design. The sub-woofer is much more sturdy and smaller than most. This is great if you want to use this system with your docked laptop. Don't expect the world out of this system - you won't be paying a bundle, this is an economical system for sure. But expect compactness, crisp sound quality for what these are and a great price. Definitely not high end ... but for a general speaker set and sub-woofer for a laptop or desktop, good stuff! You'll also enjoy the little pod remote (which is unfortunately attached to another wire on the system, thus making it more difficult to maneuver) to control volume and on/off functions. It's cute and functional. The reason for 4 stars was that I found the pod to maneuver and wished it was wired alone instead of attached to the sub-woofer. A little awkward for me. I did like the placement of the headphone jack on the pod. A nice feature indeed. 4 stars. Good for games and movies, not so good for music The Logitech Z313 speaker system was used to replace my old Altec Lansing ACS52 speaker system. First of all the speakers were super easy to connect to the computer. It took me longer to unpack the items from the box than it did to hook the speakers up to my computer. All you have to do is plug in one end of the control pod to the subwoofer, plug in the chord to the computer that is attached to the pod, plug the speakers into the subwoofer, plug in the power and your ready to go. The control pod is nice as it makes it really easy to adjust the volume and turn the speakers off and on. What I didn't like about the pod is that it is wired to both the subwoofer and the computer. Just what I didn't need was more wires cluttered behind my desk. I first tried playing some games and the speakers sounded really nice with the games. You could hear a lot of little things that were going on in the background on the games. Next I watched a move which I was also very happy with the sound. Last I listened to some music and this is where I became very disappointed with these speakers. I listen to a lot of music on my computer and the sound that came through these speakers was not the greatest. There were great highs and great lows, but these speakers lack any mid-range sound. I listen to a lot of rock and metal and some of the music sounded like you were listening to it through a tin can since there is no mid-range. I was able to crank the speakers up nice and loud and the sound didn't break up at all. The bass was nice, but it wasn't as booming as my old system was. Again, the difference may be due to the lack of mid-range on these speakers and not to any lack of bass. Plugging headphones into the pod was simple but the volume control on the pod does nothing when you have headphones plugged in. I had to go into my computer volume control to change volume settings while listening through headphones. Overall, if you are looking for speakers to play games and watch movies, these will fill that bill without a problem. If your looking for speakers to listen to a lot of music with, you may want to pass these over and look for something else. Clean and Clear Sounds Plus Deep Bass at a Reasonable Price! This Logitech Z313 is referred as a 2.1 speaker system (2 satellite speakers plus 1 sub-woofer). If you want to hear deep bass in your music, a sub-woofer is a must, and it should be placed on the floor for best results. Compared to Logitech's Z520 2.0 (only 2 speakers, no sub-woofer) speaker system, which I recently also tested, it is quite apparent that Z313 has much deeper bass, although the Z313 system costs less than half the price of the Z520. If you listen to music at relatively low to normal sound volume, I would recommend the Z313. At higher volumes, the satellite speakers will not be able to crank out sound loud enough, and most of what you will hear are thumps from the sub-woofer. The Z520 is capable of much louder music without distortion; perhaps that's why it costs a lot more than the Z313.
